Project of the national scientific programme "Healthy and Safe Food": "Alteration of Bioactive Components of Rarer Berry Plants Depending on Genotype and Environment" (UOGBIOGENA). KTU Project Manager – P.R. Venskutonis, LMT, 2011-2014. Within the project framework antioxidant characteristics and phytochemical composition of various kinds of blueberries (10 genotypes) and Guelder Rose berries (10 genotypes), cultivated and analysed in the experimental base of the project partners; the most valuable kinds are indicated according to their antioxidant characteristics and phytochemical composition.

Project of the national scientific programme "Healthy and Safe Food": "Compositions of nano starch and natural bioactive materials for functional food" (NANOKRAKMOLAS). KTU prof. A. Žemaitaitis, prof. P.R. Venskutonis, LMT, 2011-2015. Project involved researches of composition, medium of natural biologically valuable materials (GMB), impact of its pH on the material's condition and characteristics; assessment of endurance of nano starch (NK) and GMB complexes using gas and liquid chromatography methods. Research of digestibility of the starch derivatives modified by octenyl succinic acid anhydride and propylene oxide and its ability to immobilize caraway essential oil were performed.

Project of the national scientific programme "Healthy and Safe Food": "Bio refining of berry pulp to functional components using high pressure and enzymatic methods" (UOGBIORAF). Manager – P.R. Venskutonis, LMT, 2014-2015. Creation and research of innovative technologies for complex processing of pulp of selected berries (raspberries, chokeberries, black currant and Guelder Rose berries) into high value functional food ingredients, applying waste-free bio refining concept. Optimized processes of pulp extraction and fractioning using supercritical carbon dioxide and subcritical water (or its mixtures with ethanol or other organic solvents). Received functional components are tested in various food matrixes, assessing their impact on various indicators, particularly on antioxidant characteristics of food products, which contain these components.

Project of the national scientific programme "Healthy and Safe Food": "Impact of cultivation and storage ways on the quality of gardening and horticulture products" (LAIKYMAS). KTU Project Manager – D. Leskauskaitė, LMT, 2010-2014. Complex impact of processing of thermal and enzymatic whey protein on 7 % whey protein system and physical-chemical characteristics of edible films, made of this system. In vitro and in vivo researches proved that edible films and covers, made from whey protein with functional additives of chitosan and quince and cranberry juice, are distinguished by antimicrobial effect.

Project of the national scientific programme "Healthy and Safe Food": "Impact of the functional components of vegetables on the quality and biological value of the products" (DARFUBIO). Project Manager KTU – I. Jasutienė, LMT, 2014-2015. Powder of lyophilized leeks, celery, parsnips, parsley and Jerusalem artichokes is produced, determining its chemical composition using standard methods, particularly focusing on qualitative and quantitative composition of carbohydrates, as well as establishing the impact of these vegetable products on binding capacity, thermal loss and output of minced meat.

"Dyeing and multi-functional organic materials for energy efficient technologies: synthesis, structure and characteristics (Photo molecules), VP1-3.1-ŠMM-07-K-01-078. Manager: prof. V. Getautis. Funding source: Programme of the EU structural assistance fund administered by LMT: "Support for scientific activities of scientists and other researchers (global grant)". Implementation period: 04.2011-03.2015.  Technology for acquisition of insoluble photoconductive organic layers is created. Organic emitters, which molecules contain carbazole chromophores connected by styrene fragment, are synthesized.

"Creation and research of azobenzene chromophore-functionalized gallium nitride surfaces" (AZOGAN), MIP-078, 2012(B1-230000669). Project Manager KTU: S. Urnikaitė. Funding source: Projects by groups of LMT scientists. Implementation period: Synthesized photochrome V-904, containing azobenzene chromophore and one active epoxy group, which can connect to GaN surface functionalized by hydroxyl groups. Photochrome V-905 containing two synthesized epoxy groups, which was used to functionalize GaN surface.

"Synthesizing of chemical functionalization of thermally activated delayed fluorescent emitters" PPS-230000-1930. Manager: prof. V. Getautis. Funding source: Vilnius University. Implementation period: 2014-2015. 16 organic emitters, characterized by thermally activated delayed fluorescence, were synthesized and characterized during execution of this contract. Synthesized organic emitters can be used for production of effective light-emitting diodes, used for flat screen and lighting devices.

"Bicyclic 1.3-benzodiazepine[3.2-a]indoles - new type of molecular switches“ (Molecular switches), MIP-076, 2012. Manager: prof. V. Martynaitis. Funding source: Projects by groups of LMT scientists. Implementation period: New diastereomer derivatives of 5a,13-metanoindol[2.1- 5a,13-metanoindolo[2,1-b][1,3]benzodiazepine, containing phenyl substituent in the 5th position of indole ring, as well as 2nd position of 4-nitrophenol fragment have been synthesized. It has been established that cis isomer is considerably more inert to the impact of basics than trans-isomer. Research of synthesized photochrome compounds identified that colourful form has one of the shortest life cycles amongst known photochromes and reaches ~5-7 ns.

"Energy efficient synthesis technology of oxide and silicate materials" (No. MIP – 025/2014) under LMT instrument "Projects by groups of scientists". Duration – 2014-2017. Project Manager: prof. dr. K. Baltakys.

Project No. VP1-3.1-ŠMM-07-K-02-075 "Management of air quality in low-energy buildings" (IAQsmart). Project Manager - assoc. prof. dr. D. Martuzevičius, duration 01-10-2012 – 30-09-2015, project financed with the funds of European Social Fund Agency under the global grant instrument. Project involved researches for indication of the sources of forming of internal pollution, impact of ventilation mechanisms in the premises on pollution elimination from the premises. Researches aim to select the ways of real time pollution methods, which could potentially be integrated in air pollution management systems and create a model of smart system, including determination of pollution level at a given moment, analysis of environmental parameters in time and making of prior decisions, ensuring that set level of pollution norms is not exceeded.

Project No. ATE-05/2012 "Control of pollution of biomass combustion: from formation of pollution to human exposition" (BiomassPoll). Project Manager – doc. D. Martuzevičius, duration 2012-2014, funding source - National scientific programme "Future Energy".

Project No. MIP-024/2014 "Synergetic DBI modification technology for treatment of industrial waste water" (SINERGOPLAS). Project Manager – assoc. prof. dr. V. Račys, duration 2014-2016, funding source – funds of projects by groups of LMT scientists. Synergetic impact of catalysts used for improvement of dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma reactor, sorbents and UV radiation on effectiveness of decomposition of stable organic compounds in industrial waste water is researched.  The project involves creation of a trial model for treatment of waste water based on functioning of DBI plasma; it will be used for research of the impact of catalysers, sorbents and UV radiation.

Project No. MIP-14117 "Leather processing without calcium compounds" (BEKALCĖ ODA), Manager dr. V. Valeika (with Department of Polymer Chemistry and Technology) 01-05-2014 – 31-12-2016. Immunisation effect of sodium aluminate on the wool is researched during the project. It is determined that sodium aluminate immunises keratin and makes it resistant to the effect of sodium sulphide. Research of the use of sodium aluminate on the systems for leather cleaning using sodium sulphide is performed. It is determined that lime can be completely replaced by sodium aluminate in leather cleaning.

Seventh Framework Programme Project No. 613589 "Re-design of the dairy industry for sustainable milk processing" (SUSMILK). KTU Project Manager – prof. G. Juodeikienė, FRAMEWORK, 2013-2016. Performed research for analysis of the possibilities of milk industry waste water (WW) for bio-energy production, preparing framework concept of biogas production from milk industry waste water and washings. Production of biogas performed applying one step (methanogenesis) and two step (acetogenesis and methanogenesis) production processes. Applying II step biogas production process, up to 58-76% of methane was acquired from WW. Possibilities of processing of milk industry waste water (WW), and CIP washings and secondary milk industry products (cheese whey and permeate) to organic acids (vinegar acid and milk acid stereoisomer) and bioethanol were also researched.

EUREKA ITEA2 project No. 09041 "Acoustic wave application for the analysis of the quality and safety of porous food and non-food matrices" (ACOUSTICS). Project Coordinator and KTU Project Manager - prof. G. Juodeikienė, Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology (MITA), 2011-2014. Created acoustic method was tested on a rapid detection of DON in wheat. The best correlation between DON concentration, assessed using ELISA method, and indications of acoustic equipment (correlation rate 0.9875, repeatability rate variation 2.1-9.1 %) determined at 3.2. kHz frequency and these results surpass indications of acoustic spectrometer (prototype). It is determined that sound absorption depends on size and humidity of wheat, therefore, it is recommended to use acoustic equipment during harvesting of grains, when grains of one genotype and the same morphology as equal humidity are cultivated. Received results indicate that acoustic technology enables monitoring of DON in wheat, because it can be used while performing multi-layer grain analysis.

EUREKA ITEA2 project No. 11005 "Emphatic products" (EMPATHIC). KTU Project Manager – prof. G. Juodeikienė, Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology (MITA), 2012–2015. Based on prepared situation scenarios, the significance of characteristics of various bakery products and confectionery, and marketing attributes to the consumers is assessed; increasing accuracy of analysis, information is interpreted relating it with the emotions, identified while observing facial expressions of the participants (applying face recognition technology Noldus FaceReader); consumers' approach to food products and their behaviour intentions are identified; analysis of acceptability of characteristics of food products and marketing attributes, links between their behaviour intentions and emotions is performed. Innovative researches are performed with Vilnius University (VU), creating a model Emofood Voice Emotions, assessing a relation between real consumers' emotions and sound expressions. Methodology for calculation of received parameters is improved and verified. The following can be mentioned as one of the innovative results: updated methodology enabled achievement of emotion recognition close to 100 %, assessing records of Berlin standard emotions database.

 "Superstructure hybrid solar cells (MESO)" (Contract No. FP7-NMP-2013  604032). Manager: prof. V. Getautis. Funding source: Seventh Framework Programme FP7. Implementation period: 2013-2016 m. New class of hole transport semiconductors is created; productivity of hybrid solar cells, which are constructed on their basis, reaches 16%.

"Impact of increase of building energy efficiency on the air quality in premises and public health in Europe" (INSULAtE). Project Manager in Lithuania – dr. D. Martuzevičius. Project duration: 01-09-2010 – 31-08-2015, project is partially funded by the EU fund LIFE+. Air quality in the premises before and after building renovation was determined in 20 apartment buildings (96 flats) of Kaunas city. Concentration of aerosol particles in the air of internal and external environment of these apartment buildings was measured, determining indicators, which help to assess parameters of apartment building and individual flats, as well as concentrations of gaseous pollutants was determined and analysed.

Project under the programme "Eureka“ SALTLESS LEATHER No. E!5897 "Leather processing technology, which requires less harmful salts", funded by ESFA, Manager dr. V. Valeika 01-09-2011 – 01-08-2014. Research of leather cleaning and dermis hoeing, using sodium metasilicate, was completed in 2014. Impact of such cleaning on other processing processes was determined and new technology was created. This technology was tested in production and provided to the project partner UAB "Odos gaminiai ir Ko.".

Periodical publication of Kaunas University of Technology "Chemical Technology“ publishes original, unpublished scientific articles and reviews on technology of organic and inorganic materials, food chemistry and technologies, biotechnologies, pharmacology technologies in Lithuanian and English languages. Members of the journal's editorial board encourage publishing of original articles, which describe the results of integrated researches of chemical technology and other related scientific fields (chemistry and biochemistry, materials science and environmental engineering).
