Department of Construction Technologies

Beginning of activities of Department of Construction Technologies is associated with 12 April 1922 , when Office of Civil Engineering, which involved Department of Civil Engineering, was established at Technical Faculty of the University of Lithuania. Recently study process of Department of  Civil Engineering Technologies involves 17 lecturers and 2 doctoral students. Head of Department – prof. Mindaugas Daukšys.Fields of study modules taught at the Department:

  • construction technologies and organization
  • construction machinery
  • construction management
  • construction economy and calculations
  • mathematical modelling and optimization of construction processes
  • legal grounds of construction
  • management of construction projects
  • special construction technologies
  • technologies of monolith construction, etc.

Department performs fundamental research according to the plans of research of Master students, and applied research and works of experimental development according to the orders of business entities. Results of fundamental research are actively used and introduces in practice for preparation of projects of scientific activities and development of new technologies.

 
 
 
 

Department of  Construction Technologies coordinates first cycle study programme "Construction Technologies" and second cycle study programme "Real Estate Management".

Study modules curated by the Department are taught in the following first cycle study programmes at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture: Architecture, Engineering Systems of Buildings, Heritage Protection, Construction Engineering, Construction Technologies, Urban Engineering and the following second cycle study programmes: Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Real Estate Management.

Department has also prepared study modules for doctoral studies in scientific field of Construction Engineering (02 T) in the area of Technologies.

Until 2013 Department of Construction Technologies performed research works in the following fields of scientific activities: creation of new special construction technologies and improvement of the existing ones, research of effectiveness of construction investment projects,  research of silicate finishing agents for facades of buildings, research of relevant technological, organizational and economic processes of construction oriented towards efficient performance of construction works, research of quality of concrete finishing surface.

Those fields of scientific activities were associated with one of the University's scientific fields – “Effective Construction Materials, Structures and Technologies". Taking into consideration University's priority fields of research, in 2014 Department's five scientific groups were reformed into two – "Advanced Construction Technologies and Research of their Effectiveness" and "Sustainable Real Estate Development".

Department associates the fields of its scientific activities with one of five priority fields of University's scientific research – "Technologies for Sustainable Development and Energy". Planned field of scientific research of scientific group "Advanced Construction Technologies and Research of their Effectiveness" is associated with processes, which take place during concreting of horizontal, sloping and vertical monolithic concrete structures of special buildings applying selected concrete technology; assessment of the quality of concrete monolithic structures; creation of silicate finishing surfaces, which are resistant to cracking and cost-efficient, using special components, local natural and technogenic raw materials in their composition; determining  legal, technological, organizational and economic factors of construction in project solutions, which lead to efficient performance of construction works and analysis of construction costs and resources in construction work pricing; performing study of options of digital levelling methodology in geoengineering research and assessment of accuracy of geodetic measurements. Planned field of scientific research of scientific group "Sustainable Real Estate Development" is associated with research of optimization of management of real estate of public sector and private capital companies, and effectiveness of investment projects for real estate construction. Research results will be published in prestigious scientific journals and presented in local and international conferences.

Theses, defended at Department of Construction Technologies

On 11 March 2012 doctoral thesis "Model for construction process safety solutions" (Technologies, Construction Engineering (02T), Rita Liaudanskienė, research supervisor prof. dr. Arvydas Juodis /prof. habil. dr. Leonas Ustinovičius (VGTU) was defended.

On 11 March 2011 doctoral thesis "Complex analysis of life cycle process of industrial concrete floor surfaces and their effective solution" (Technologies, Construction Engineering (02T)) was defended, Violeta Medelienė, research supervisor dr. Vigantas Antanas Žiogas, research consultants: prof. habil. dr. Juozas Augutis and dr. Mindaugas Daukšys.

On 26 March 2010 doctoral thesis "Assessment of competitiveness of construction companies in terms of overheads" (Technologies, Construction Engineering (02T)) was defended, Ala Daugėlienė,  research supervisor prof. dr. Arvydas Juodis / assoc. prof. dr. Rasa Apanavičienė.

On 25 June 2001 doctoral thesis "Modelling of effectiveness of construction project management applying artificial neural networks" (Technologies, Construction Engineering (02T)) was defended, Rasa Apanavičienė, research supervisor prof. dr. Arvydas Juodis.

On 30 June 1998 doctoral thesis "Optimization of processes of insulation of external walls of constructed residential buildings" (Technologies, Construction Engineering (02T)) was defended, Rolandas Janušaitis, research supervisor prof. dr. Arvydas Juodis.

  • Research of continuous concrete pour technologies for solid monolithic structures, assessment of technologies for installation of monolithic concrete floors and their surfaces;
  • Assessment of quality of concrete surface of monolithic structures;
  • Study of options of digital levelling methodology in geoengineering research. Assessment of accuracy of geodetic measurements;
  • Research of technologies for building facades, interior finishing, and repair works. Research of possibilities of using local raw materials and industrial waste in construction;
  • Preparation and expertise of construction price (estimate calculations);
  • Preparation and expertise of preparation works and organization projects for construction works;
  • Preparation of technological projects for construction works;
  • Preparation of certificates of energy performance of renovation (modernization) of apartment buildings and investment plans.
