Department of Production Engineering

Department was established in 2014, after reorganization and merge of Departments of Mechatronics and Production Technologies from the Faculty of Mechanics And Mechatronics, and Department of Graphic Communications Engineering from the Faculty of Design and Technologies.

Mission of Department of Production Engineering – provision of good quality studies of production engineering and related areas, development of scientific research, creation and transfer of knowledge for sustainable evolution of technologies and  development of innovations.

3 professors, 16 associated professors and 5 lecturers doctors perform educational and scientific research work at Department of Production Engineering. Young scientists, who defend their thesis, join the team of Department’s employees.

Department of Production Engineering cooperates closely with Lithuanian and foreign universities (from the USA, Germany, Canada, Finland, Romania, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Ukraine, Belarus and other countries) in preparation of project applications, participation in scientific research projects and exchange of lecturers.

Department of Production Engineering cooperates with groups of scientists from Vytautas Magnus University, Klaipėda University, Vilnius University, Aleksandras Stulginskis University, and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, performing research and improving study processes.

Goal of Department’s scientific activities: continuation and development of scientific research, related to engineering area (in scientific fields of Mechanical Engineering and Material Engineering).

Employees of Department of Production Engineering are members of Lithuanian associations (Association of Lithuanian Printing Industries (LISPA), international organisations (International Circle of Educational Institutes for Graphic Arts-Technology and Management (IC), FTA, European Coal and Steel Community, Association of Baltic Materials Societies, International Centre for Inovation and Industrial Logistics (ICIIL), members of editorial boards of scientific journals (Kvalilogija knigi, Materials Engineering, Mechanika), members of international conferences (Materials Engineering, Mechanika, Mechatronic Systems and Materials) , editorial, organizational and scientific committees.

Research

There are two scientific groups in Department of Production Engineeringin scientific fields of Mechanical Engineering and Material Engineering:

  • Scientific Group for Research of Equipment
  • Materials and Processes of Graphic Media

Group for Development and Research of Innovative Production Processes and Systems:

  • research of mechanical, physical features and characteristics of packing materials;
  • diagnostics and identification of physical and mechanical characteristics of paper, cardboard and polymer film using applied optics (moiré, speckle imaging, photo elasticity methods) under static and dynamic load;
  • preparation of methods for engineering design and recommendations for production of paper, cardboard and plastic packages.

Research of both scientific groups is related to the University’s scientific fields: Diagnostic and Measurement Technologies, Technologies for Sustainable Development and Energy, and New High Tech Materials.

In the process of development, research and improvement of production technologies and engineering materials, there are inevitable economic requirements related to reduction of production (equipment) cost, economy of resources, increase of productivity, etc. Both research of machinery production technologies and packing technologies and materials take into consideration environmental requirements and offers solutions, which environmental impact.

Employees of Department of Production Engineering present research results and promote latest scientific news in Lithuanian and foreign conferences, actively participate in the events for dissemination of the results of scientific activities: Researchers Night, Spaceship Earth.
