This week the results of QS Rankings by Subject 2018 were announced. Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) is among 500 top universities in the world in Engineering and Technology.

At an overall score 61.8 in this subject, Engineering and Technology is KTU’s strongest field; the University is ranked 451–500 in the world.

In QS Rankings by Subject the universities are ranked according to 4 criteria: academic reputation (votes from 170,000 academics in 60 countries around the world), employer reputation (158,000 global employer votes), citations per paper (the average number of citations obtained per publication), h-index.

KTU has improved its results in most criteria of the Rankings, comparing with the last year. The biggest change is observed in H-index, which attempts to measure both the productivity and the impact of the work published by the University’s scientists. H-index this year grew by almost 6 points.

“We are especially happy to see the growing H-index, as this demonstrates not only increasing number of publications, but also their improved quality. And, of course, we are very happy to see that the academic reputation criterion has also improved”, says Lolita Jurkšienė, Head of KTU Strategy Monitoring and Processes Office.

Engineering and Technology subject consists from five fields: Computer Science and Information Systems, Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautic and Manufacturing Engineering. KTU has received the highest ranking in Electrical and Electronic Engineering field, however, the assessments of mechanical engineering, structure and civil engineering and IT engineering were also very high.

The results of the rankings were mainly influenced by exceptionally good academic and employer reputation criteria evaluations, which shows the growing trust of society in KTU and the competitiveness of KTU graduates in job market.

QS WUR is most widely used and most reliable world university rankings, which issues overall and several detailed rankings annually. KTU is taking part both in overall QS World University Rankings and in several other rankings initiated by QS WUR.
