Open Lectures by Former BBC Trust Council Member Robert Beveridge

Wednesday 30 November Robert Beveridge, former BBC Trust Council Member will deliver open lectures at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities. Beveridge, who is a professor at the University of Sassari (Sardinia, Italy) will talk on communication and changing society. The lectures are aimed at the New Media Language and European Studies students, but are open to all academic community.

Beveridge is a media policy expert with strong experience in media history, social, political sciences and law. The main focus of his research interests is public broadcasting and media and its influence to business practices. In 2007–2010 Beveridge was a Trust Audience Council Member at BBC Scotland; in this public position he advised the BBC on its policies and practices and held the BBC to account across and range of issues.

He delivered the opening Keynote address at the Australian International Documentary Festival in Melbourne 2006 and has been invited to speak at the Asia Media Summits in Kuala Lumpur and Beijing as well as by the European Broadcasting Union and at various media industry and academic events across Europe.

Beveridge has also appeared on television and radio and has written for a number of newspapers. Until recently, he was a Director of Voice of the Listener and Viewer, the UK media advocacy group founded by Jocelyn Hay.

Wednesday 30 November at 10.30am and 5.30pm Robert Beveridge will deliver two lectures open for all students and academic community:

  • 10.30am, room 209

Getting It Right: Communication and Discourse in a Multi-National and Multi-Cultural United Kingdom – the lecture, which is open to all, can be especially interesting to the New Media Language students

  • 5.30pm, room 113

Understanding the Changing United Kingdom: Brexit, Europe and Federalism – the lecture, which is open to all, can be especially interesting European studies students

All lectures will take place at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities (A. Mickevičiaus Street 37). No registration needed.
